In this chapter, we discuss the usage of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the surveillance and monitoring of moving areas and targets, which correspond to various practical applications including but not limited to the agriculture, the surveillance of disaster processes such as offshore oil spills, flood and coal ash spills, and the monitoring of ground vehicles and pedestrians. We present several decentralized algorithms for the navigation of a team of UAVs to collaboratively conduct the given mission. The properties of these algorithms such as the optimality are discussed and computer simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithms.
