For pt.I see ibid., vol.21, no.3, p.426-40 (1975). This paper describes the software systems PANATRAC 300 and 400, which have been developed for area traffic control systems. Since PANATRAC 400 system is a multi-computer hierarchical system, each computer shares the load of the software, and the processing of data is considered similar to that of the PANATRAC 300. Hence, the PANATRAC 300 is reported in this paper. The PANATRAC 300 can directly control up to 300 intersections by processing data obtained from 750 vehicle detectors. This system has the following features: Real time operating system for traffic control; Processing of vehicle detection signals; Control of local traffic signal controllers; Man-machine communication using CRT display unit; and file management program.
