This chapter examines and assess various types of state of the art thermal management systems (TMS) for electric vehicle battery systems. It conducts step‐by‐step thermodynamic modelling of a real TMS and evaluates the major system components under various parameters and real life constraints with respect to energy and exergy criteria to provide the readers with the methods as well as the corresponding results of the analyses. The chapter provides a simplified version of the code for the conducted thermodynamic analysis in the Engineering Equation Solver (EES). It examines and compares cabin cooling (via air), active moderate cooling (via refrigerant) and active cooling (via water/glycol mix) for a given battery system with respect to battery temperature increase, uniformity and entropy generation. The chapter analyses active thermal management system with respect to energy and exergy efficiencies under various system parameters.
