Solectria Corporation, the leading U.S. electric vehicle (EV) conversion manufacturer, has developed the Sunrise, a low-cost, long-range, purpose-built electric vehicle suitable for volume production and sales in the U.S., and other countries with stringent vehicle requirements. This car is an all composite monocoque four passenger commuter EV that can be purchased with either advanced lead acid or nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. This vehicle is a radical departure from 75 year old sheet metal technology toward modern methods of plastic/composite construction. Vehicles built with these new methods and materials are lighter in weight, higher in efficiency, safer, more durable, more reliable, corrosion-resistant, and lower in cost at low-volume production levels. Ongoing engineering and beta testing show the vehicle to be a good performer, and a desirable product offering. EV races prove the vehicle's range and performance. Funding has been provided for pilot production tooling capable of making the Sunrise cost-effectively at the 20,000 units per year quantity level. Business development efforts are underway to establish volume manufacturing and worldwide distribution with additional business partners.
