The non-linear dynamics of acoustic wave propagation in an underwater sound channel is studied by a parabolic ray theory using Munk's sound speed profile. The Hamiltonian system of the ray trajectory is forced by a single harmonic mode of internal wave, the amplitude and length of which are used in bifurcation analysis. It is revealed that the system can be excited into stable periodic motion or can become unstable. The regions of instability are located numerically by constructing bifurcation diagrams and visualized through a sequence of phase diagrams and Poincare maps. Theoretical confirmation is provided by Floquet theory.
