Fleet testing of electric vehicles (EVs) is an important step in the process of technological development and customer acceptance. In Europe many fleets have been established in the past and in recent years and testing and demonstration activities have been performed with them. CEU (Commission of European Union), in the framework of the JOULE II Programme, has started a project in January 1995, aimed, among other scopes, at surveying testing and demonstration fleets in Europe in order to create an inventory and a database, compare data from different experiences and establish a common fleet testing procedure and equipment, which can also influence bench testing. In Europe there are about 10.000 EVs of which almost 1.700 are part of fleets. These EVs are spread all over the Europe and accomplish variable services by applying the most advanced battery technologies. This paper summarises the results of the general survey and clarifies the level of applications and the amount of data that can be usefully collected and analysed.
