In driving cycle tests of internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) using a chassis dynamometer, vehicle velocity during deceleration is commonly controlled by 'auto speed regulation' of the chassis dynamometer. For electric vehicles (EVs), the chassis dynamometer simulates the road load of EVs and the vehicle velocity is controlled by the vehicle brake directly to simulate the regenerative brake of EVs. If EVs are tested on a single roller chassis dynamometer, the energy to be spent by the brakes in the non drive wheels is absorbed by the regenerative brake. A chassis dynamometer system with two rollers and two dynamometers has been developed to evaluate the performance of electric vehicles. In decelerating mode of driving cycle tests, the system acts as a four-wheel brake dynamometer to simulate the regenerative braking of EVs. This paper discusses the operating principle and analysis of the error generated in this system.
