In addition to the knowledge of the processing technology, increasing efforts of the automotive industry to realize lightweight construction with higher tensile cold rolled sheets and/or aluminium require also statements on the component behavior of the used materials in crash-relevant deformation velocities. Besides basic statements on the forming and joining behavior of the individual materials the crash behavior is demonstrated by models of different types in practical tests and by numerical simulation. Results obtained from impact tensile tests with varying rates of load application and temperatures are explained. Similar to the automobile, the road safety equipment has also to protect vehicles from getting off the road. The behavior of guiding systems in case of a crash is described.
