The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) is implemented and operated independently by China to provide global satellite navigation services. With 14 operational satellites in orbit, the BDS started providing full operational service to China and surrounding countries in December 2012. Among the PNT services that BDS offers, there are some unique features of BDS which are especially attractive for high-precision GNSS applications. Those features are reflected from the number of available satellites, the number of available satellite signals, and the unique space constellation architecture, etc. This paper provides an overview of some early adoptions of BDS applications in the field of high-precision positioning. At the moment, the BDS high-precision applications have been popularized in the following areas: (1) CORS networks; (2) mapping and surveying; and (3) precision agriculture and machine control.
