Detailed study of the degradation of Y₂O₃

This study deals with Y₂O₃ ceramic coating tested under space environmental conditions. The aim is to understand the discolouration of the coating after radiation exposure. Various radiation sources, respectively with different wavelengths have been tested in order to compare the effect. After exposure, the coatings are stored in parallel in various atmospheres, to observe the possible recovery to initial state. What is the degradation mechanism? Surface or bulk change?
