This article reveals the advantages of methodical approaches to the attribute development process on full-vehicle level. The key to this development process is the introduction of objective (target) parameters of preferably all of the vehicle attributes. Only then, a real targeted design process of concept parameters and components can be realized. Additional advantages lay in objective assessments of trade-offs on a vehicle attribute level as well as the interpretability and acceptance of simulation results. Furthermore, the potential of standardized characteristic values for the classification of tyres is shown. By introducing these parameters into full-vehicle simulation models a predevelopment of tyre attributes can be realized. This procedure is being illustrated for lateral dynamic tyre characteristics; that is, by setting a target self-steering gradient or steady-state yaw rate gain respectively. In the end, it has to be the major objective of the tyre development process to have objective tyre parameters for all tyre attributes. Hence, a target setting and monitoring of tyre attributes can be realized in the entire development process.
