Pollution problems and their effects on the environment in the long term continue to worry vehicle manufacturers. In order to resolve the negative problems brought by automobiles, researching and applying new alternative energy in the field of automobile are attracting people's attention, electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles and solar vehicles emerge on a large scale. This paper proposes a hybrid power system of electric vehicle (EV) based on photovoltaic (PV) cells/ultracapacitors (UC)/batteries. The research shows that the maximum power point of PV panel is tracked (iMPPT), the time of sharp current discharging is reduced because of the combination of high power density of UC and high energy density of battery, the performances of vehicle start-up and climbing are improved as a result.
