A transient thermal analysis has been performed using the finite element MSC Marc commercial code. The present approach has been used to study two subsystems of the Vega Launch Vehicle: the base cover of the Zefiro 23 second stage motor and the flange coupling between Zefiro 23 and inter-stage 1/2. In the base cover a structured mesh was used, due to the specific geometry of the structure, and a mesh refinement, in order to obtain the most convenient computational time and accuracy. In the flange coupling analysis, an unstructured mesh has been employed due to its complex geometry. The thermal analysis has been carried out on the non-insulated structures in order to justify the presence of the thermal protection, and on the insulated structures to verify the temperatures reached by the structure.
