A new compact surface mount hybrid linear voltage regulator project has been undertaken which employs all bipolar transistor technology to provide radiation tolerance and extremely low dropout voltage. Testing data from 100 Gy (Si) through 3000 Gy (Si) is presented. Dropout voltages of 0.10 to 0.65 V were obtained from 0.50 to 5.0 A respectively and it is demonstrated that this same performance if achievable at either far greater currents and /or much lower dropout values. Very rapid response times of less than 0.01 ms allow alternate application as output filter for switching regulators.
