Industrial and official interests in Sweden are presently cooperating in a joint effort to develop production technology for Ethanol and its subsequent use for chemical industrial purposes and, also, to develop and demonstrate its use for the motor fuel market. The industrial parties represent the different sectors of industry (chemical industry, forest industry, Federation of Swedish Farmers), which have an interest in the development of Ethanol as a potential motor fuel. The principal objective of the Project is to demonstrate the technical feasibility of using hydrous Ethanol as diesel fuel for large trucks, tractors, city busses and machinery used in confined areas and, also to assess the possible merits of using an Ethanol based diesel fuel in applications as indicated. The technical program of the Project includes extensive field testing of 4 city busses, 2 large lorries, 1 agricultural tractor and 1 fork lift in confined area operation. The vehicles are equipped with engines featuring either dual injection or use of ignition improver fuel. Field testing begun in spring 1985 and is planned to continue through 1987 to spring 1988.
