The structural stiffnesses of todays city buses has a considerable effect on dynamic stresses and ride comfort. A study of the influence of the bending and torsional stiffness of the structure on dynamic loads and ride comfort is presented. Use is made of acceleration measurements on a city bus and road response calculations on finite element models. It was found that the vertical bending stiffness has a considerable influence on the acceleration level and comfort in the bus. The use of bonded windows and a good lattice structure contribute to a higher bending stiffness.
