A critical part of the successful operation of the Oceaneering DUAL HYDRA 2500 vehicle system was a comprehensive testing program. This testing included both component and subsystem level testing and sea tests exercising the complete system in an operational environment. This paper describes the testing program which included complete pressure testing of the main umbilical and tether cables, all connectors, junction boxes, and oil filled terminations, manipulators, and the complete vehicle with its telemetry and power systems. Also addressed is the testing of the cable handling and tether management systems. The sea testing consisted of a complete integrated system test in water depths ranging from 100 feet to 2500 feet over a two week period.
