The energy crisis has given rise to the production of new types of marine diesel engines with low fuel consumption, their characteristics are long stroke, reduced number of cylinders and reduced speed. Dynamic characteristics of the new engines has not yet been investigated, therefore a procedure for vibration analysis of these engines on the test bed utilizing the finite element method is presented. For illustration lateral vibration analysis of the -3rd May-Sulzer 4 rla 90 engine has been performed. The procedure is verified comparing calculated and measured results.
