Resistance and self-propulsion tests in regular and irregular head waves, and resistance tests in oblique regular waves were carried out with the multi-purpose dry cargo vessel 'FORTUNE'. Measurement and analysis methods for these tests are presented in this paper. The self-propulsion tests changing the propeller load in regular waves were carried out and the influence of the propeller load, ship motions and so on are discussed on self-propulsion factors. To remove the autopilot steering effect on ship motions in oblique waves, a new resistance dynamometer with a yaw spring for keeping the heading angle was developed. The experimental results of ship motions in small waves show good agreement with the results calculated by O.S.M. The computation on the power prediction was examined in irregular long-crested head waves having significant height of 4,2 m and the speed loss in waves was also shown. The deck wetness was observed in heavy regular head waves and shown together with the spray zone. (Wassmann)
