Discussion of the application of a hydrostatic transmission system as applicable to a public service vehicle engaged on city routes. An integral hydrostatic regenerative braking system is discussed, with specific reference to a system to suit a city bus. The merits of hydrostatic transmissions have been shown and utilized in the off-road and specialized vehicle fields and all the advantages, including ease of control and integration of design, apply equally well to a PSV. A 'Fleetline' bus fitted with a hydrostatic transmission is undergoing trials for evaluation purposes, and the paper refers to its conversion and some results from road trials. (Wassmann)
