Describes the structural design and characteristics of deep-sea optical fiber cable with water blocking properties. An 'spaceless' optical fiber unit and a composite tension member are designed taking into account the laying and recovery at a depth of 8000 m, waterproofing and so on. Aluminum is clarified is clarified to be necessary for the pressure resistant pipe to ensure that the required fiber proof-test strain to be reduced to 2.0%. Results of sea trials at an 8000 m depth demonstrate excellent cable properties.
