Towards the end of the 1960's design began on a single dome air combat simulator. The emphasis here was to provide a simulation of aircraft in a dog fight. This in turn would enable us to learn more about, and produce better designed, combat aircraft. We now have a twin dome simulator in which two pilots can fight each other. The display requirements are considerably different from the Air to Ground situation and will be discussed under the heading Air to Air. Finally missile projectors are provided. These simulate the launch and path of both incoming and outgoing missiles. A simple point light source projector is used servo driven in azimuth and elevation.
