A highly refined display technology suitable for a broad range of military and industrial applications is now available. Through the conservative and highly specialized engineering which contributed to its military qualification and nuclear hardness, this device establishes a new benchmark for high performance display devices. The successful development of the PLASMASCOPE display terminal introduces a new level of device performance in the field of interactive displays than has been available heretofore. Careful investigations of the suitability of less mature display techniques such as TFEL and LCD for use in nuclear and other punishing environments should be conducted. The broader use of flat panel plasma displays, which is expected, will accelerate the further development of all these techniques to provide even more refined performance and eventually introduce it into mass consumer areas.
