This chapter presents a solution to the problem of network management of road traffic along the based on the concepts described in Chap. 28. Hierarchical control turns out to fit very well with this problem and offers a scalable and implementable solution to this long standing problem with high societal value. The two main components of the approach are a recursive, geographic split-up of a given network, and a multilevel control synthesis.
