This is a statistical analysis of multiple large-scale, on-the-road tests by municipal transit authorities, U.S. Military agencies, and others in California, Arizona, and New York City. From a study of 28 diesel additives three proprietary diesel fuel additives have been identified which consistently yield significant energy savings and opacity improvements at the 95% confidence level. Chassis dynamometer tests support reported fuel savings and associated reductions in NOx, HC, CO and PM emissions. Use of such additives in the South Coast Basin would save 92 million gallons of diesel fuel annually, and three times that if used statewide in California.Surplus emission reductions (beyond what is required by current or proposed regulations) from using one of these diesel additives in the South Coast Air Basin would be:
