The article reports that the Soviet Navy is relying more heavily on missile carrying-surface vessels, and to this end is constructing a number of such ships or it is re-equipping older vessels for missile-carrier duty. The 'Varyag' class is a new type of missile-cruiser unique in its armament and electronic equipment. It has two missile launchers for surface-to-surface missiles, and one antiaircraft missile launcher, as well as antiaircraft artillery and antisubmarine armament. These ships are especially well suited for defense against aerial attack. Illustrations are included of a Sverdlov class missile cruiser, a Varyag class missile cruiser, a missile carrier with 2 antiaircraft missile launchers, a missile carrier with one antiaircraft missile launcher, and of two missile-equipped speedboats.
