The New York State safety sedan design presented in this report is the result of findings derived from the New York State safety car program that was accomplished between October 1965 and September 1967. Analyses were performed of the critical elements of automobile safety. These critical elements were organized into the following five categories of safety: Accident avoidance; Crash injury reduction; Pedestrian injury reduction; Postcrash protection; and Nonoperating safety.
