The Horizon 2000 program, ESA's long term program in space science, is outlined. The program was initiated in 1984 and is based on a series of large, medium and small missions in space astronomy and exploration of the solar system. An update of the missions already in orbit and those under development is presented. The status of the long term missions is described. A schedule is given for the launch and implementation of these missions.
