This paper provides an overview of hull form design practices as applied by NAVSEA 501 in the design of hydrofoils, small waterplane area twin hulls (SWATH), surface effect ships, and air cushion vehicles for the U.S. Navy. General design considerations are discussed in the context of specific examples of recent advanced vehicle hull form design.
