In the framework of aircraft construction, the characteristics and applications of composite materials are reviewed and compared with those of metallic materials. Surface treatments, epoxy and polyimide resins, carbon and aramid fibers, layer orientation, packing density, curing cycles, chemical resistance, fatigue resistance, and defect detection are discussed.
