This paper presents smartLDW, an advanced driver assistance system based on off-the-shelf smartphones and a central information service. Using a smart-phone's built-in sensors, an application running on the smartphone detects dangers and submits them to the central information service. This service accumulates the danger information from the various smartphones currently on the road and informs the smartphone about local dangers in its vicinity.
