A practical double-stage CPOPA scheme is demonstrated which provides a compact solution to amplify stretched pulses to the 100 /spl mu/J level (signal + idler) at 1 kHz. The amplified signal pulses at 1.574 /spl mu/m are recompressed to 270 fs.
