In this paper, racetrack resonator in surface sensing is presented. The racetrack resonator in surface sensing is investigated and the sensing parameters including sensitivity and quality factor are analytically derived in both scheme: the resonant wavelength shift and intensity variation. It is shown there is a maximum phase shift at which the maximum device sensitivity can be obtained. Moreover, it is demonstrated in the intensity detection there are optimal values of self coupling coefficient t and attenuation factor ¿ at which the maximum device sensitivity can be maximized. In addition the variations of maximum phase shift and quality factor versus t and ¿ are shown.
