This paper describes the design and optimisation of a rugged 94GHz balanced mixer, with applications in airborne systems. The mixer is of the crossbar ripe, and is analysed using scale modelling and non-linear computer techniques. The mixer incorporates a novel diode integrated circuit consisting of two balanced, Schottky-diodes in series, and the associated antenna coupling structure, fabricated using planar processing methods.
