In order to improve the safety level of unsignalized intersections of two-lane highway, this paper defines traffic conflicts at unsignalized intersections based on the traffic conflict theory. Firstly, according to the track of vehicles, kinematics formulas and the probability calculation formula of vehicles arrived in intersection area based on Poisson distribution, the possibility index of cross-conflict was proposed. Then, the severity index of cross conflict was established based on the physical parameters such as vehicle speed, speed difference, deceleration and spacing of vehicles, so as to put forward the risk index of cross conflict to evaluate the safety of two-lane highways unsignalized intersections. The research results can provide a theoretical method for the safety design of unsignalized intersections.
