Vom Hauptsystem bereitgestellte Energie wird als Antriebsleistung dem Antriebssystem zugeführt und von diesem zum Bewegen der Lokomotive verwendet. Ein Wagen beinhaltet zumindest ein weiteres Energiebereitstellungssystem als Nebensystem, wobei das Nebensystem zeitversetzt zum Hauptsystem dazu verwendet wird, Antriebsleistung dem Antriebssystem zuzuführen. Komponenten, die sowohl vom Hauptsystem als auch von dem zumindest einen Nebensystemen nutzbar sind, sind lediglich einmal ausgeführt und werden sowohl vom Hauptsystem als auch vom zumindest einen Nebensystem gemeinsam genutzt. Komponenten, die ausschließlich von dem zumindest einen Nebensystem nutzbar sind, sind auf dem Wagen angeordnet.
