PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To upgrade pedestrian collision sensing performance using a single configuration.SOLUTION: Thresholds for use in sensing a collision with a pedestrian are predesignated by utilizing the fact that in case a vehicle collides, a deformation quantity of an upper part of a vehicular bumper and a deformation quantity of a lower part thereof vary depending on a type of collided object. A control unit performs second-order integration on each of results of detection, which are provided by a bumper upper part acceleration sensor and bumper lower part acceleration sensor respectively, in terms of time so as to detect the deformation quantities, and discriminates a collision with a pedestrian on the basis of the detected deformation quantities and thresholds. More particularly, if the deformation quantity of the upper part of a vehicular bumper and the deformation quantity of the lower part thereof fall within a left upper area of the drawing (an area predefined by classifying values using a larger threshold for the deformation quantity of the upper part than for the deformation quantity of the lower part), the control unit discriminates the collision with a pedestrian.

    【課題】歩行者衝突検知性能を簡単な構成で向上させることを目的とする。【解決手段】車両が衝突した場合、車両用バンパの上部の変形量と下部の変形量が衝突対象の種類によって異なることを利用して、歩行者への衝突を検知する閾値を予め設定する。そして、制御装置が、バンパ上部加速度センサ及びバンパ下部加速度センサの各々検出結果を時間で2階積分することにより、各々変形量を検出し、検出した変形量と閾値とに基づいて、歩行者との衝突を判定する。具体的には、車両用バンパの上部の変形量と下部の変形量が、図左上の領域(下部の変形量よりも上部の変形量の上が大きい閾値で区切られた予め定めた領域内)となる場合に、歩行者と衝突したと判定する。【選択図】図3
