A method 500 for reducing noise caused by a turbofan engine comprising disrupting a shock cell exiting an annular fan nozzle by expanding a first portion of the shock cell 502 by impinging the first potion upon a convex surface of a core cowl and compressing a second portion of the shock cell 504 by impinging the second portion upon a concave surface of the core cowl disposed downstream of the convex surface. A third portion of the shock cell may be passed over a conical surface of the core cowl 506 laterally adjacent to the convex and concave surfaces. The shock cell may traverse channels 508 which may include the convex and concave surfaces. The convex surface may be continuous with the concave surface.
