A BICYCLE THRU-AXLE
A bicycle through-axle for supporting a bicycle wheel on frame members such a rear dropouts of a bicycle comprises a shaft having accessory attachment profiles 44 at each end. The shaft has a cylindrical central portion and is made up of first and second shaft sections 48, 50 which are releasably interconnected at an interface situated between the ends of the central portion. The shaft has an enlarged head at one end and an external screw thread at the other to engage a cooperating tapped bore in one of the rear dropouts on the bicycle frame. The shaft sections 48, 50 can be separated so that the first frame section 48 can be replaced by another to match the thread profile of the screw thread in the dropout. Spacers 66 may be used to alter the length of the axle and various head elements 42 may be used to match the frame profile.
