An actuator comprises an input shaft 2, a sliding collar 3 arranged around the input shaft 2, and an output shaft 7. The input shaft 2, output shaft 7 and sliding collar 3 are arranged such that a torque applied to the input shaft 2 can be transmitted via the sliding collar 3 to the output shaft 7. The actuator comprises a torque-limiting device for limiting the transmission of torque between the input shaft 2 and the output shaft 7 if the torque exceeds a certain threshold. The torque-limiting device comprises one or more rolling elements 25 arranged between the sliding collar 3 and the input shaft 1 to allow the sliding collar 3 to move axially relative to the input shaft 1 and engage with or disengage from the output shaft 7.
