The invention relates to a hydrogen internal combustion engine and a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle. The invention relates to a hydrogen internal combustion engine for passenger vehicles, comprising at least one cylinder having a combustion chamber and a metal hollow valve (1) for introducing hydrogen into the combustion chamber or for discharging water from the combustion chamber, the hollow valve (1) comprising a tubular valve stem (2) extending in an axial direction (A), which valve stem transitions in the axial direction (A) into a valve disk (3), the valve disc has an outer diameter (da) which is increased relative to the valve rod (2). The valve stem (2) and the valve disk (3) delimit a cavity (4), the cavity diameter (hd1) of the cavity (4) measured transversely to the axial direction (A) in the region of the valve stem (2) being between 3.0 mm and 4.4 mm. The wall thickness (w1) of the hollow valve (1), measured transversely to the axial direction (A), in the region of the valve stem (2) is between 0.8 mm and 1.4 mm.
