The travel control apparatus includes a control unit configured to detect, when the vehicle is traveling through the automatic traveling function, other vehicles present within a predetermined range of the vehicle and whose planned traveling route is partially or completely the same as a planned traveling route of the vehicle, and switching the driving function of the vehicle from the automatic driving function to the following driving function such that the vehicle automatically follows the detected other vehicle as a preceding vehicle.
