A power conversion mechanism configured to interface between the electrical energy storage and the electric machine, comprising: an electronic switching device comprising a first plurality of power modules and configured to control a direction of current flow between the electrical energy storage and the electric machine to a first direction or a second direction opposite the first direction; and a power inverter comprising a second plurality of power modules and configured to commutate current flow between the electrical energy store and the electric machine, wherein each power module of the electronic switching device and the power inverter comprises the same arrangement of power components.
