The invention discloses an unattended license plate recognition system and method and belongs to the technical field of computers, thereby solving problems that a user cannot pay fees normally, the waiting time for leaving the parking lot is long and the experience feeling of the user is poor because license plate information recognition is wrong when a vehicle leaves the parking lot during unattended operation. The system comprises an identification module used for identifying license plate information on a vehicle when the vehicle leaves a parking lot, a matching module for carrying out full-character matching on the license plate information and license plate information when a vehicle drives into a parking lot when receiving the license plate information, and a fault-tolerant processing module for carrying out fault-tolerant processing on the license plate information when the full-word matching is unsuccessful. The system and method are used for processing the situation of licenseplate recognition errors when vehicles in the unattended parking lot leave the parking lot.
