An electric drive device for a vehicle includes: a rotating machine that is used as a driving force source for traveling of the vehicle; a differential device configured to distribute power transmitted from the rotating machine to right and left driving wheels; and a retarder provided in a power transmission path between the rotating machine and the differential device and configured to generate abraking force. The retarder is either an electromagnetic retarder or a fluid retarder. The rotating machine and the retarder are arranged on opposite sides of an axis of the differential device in afront-rear direction of the vehicle in a plan view seen from above the vehicle, the axis of the differential device being parallel to a width direction of the vehicle.

一种用于车辆的电气驱动装置包括：旋转机械，其被用作用于所述车辆的行驶的驱动力源；差动装置，其构造成将从所述旋转机械传递的动力分配至左驱动轮和右驱动轮；以及缓速器，其设置在所述旋转机械和所述差动装置之间的动力传递路径中并且构造成产生制动力。所述缓速器是电磁缓速器或流体缓速器。在从所述车辆的上方观察到的俯视图中，所述旋转机械和所述缓速器在所述车辆的前后方向上布置在所述差动装置的轴线的相反侧，所述差动装置的所述轴线平行于所述车辆的宽度方向。
