The invention relates to a method for checking the status of field devices (26) of a building-associated installation for transporting people (10), comprising the following steps: sending a command block (56) of a status telegram (54) from a monitoring unit (38) via a series bus (36) to a plurality of field devices (26); supplementing the status telegram (54) by field devices (26) that are addressed by the command block (56); receiving the data block (66) supplemented by the addressed field devices (26) by the monitoring unit (38); and evaluating the status values by the monitoring unit (38).
