ALTHOUGH it is obviously a four-engined development of the Manchester the Lancaster is a very great improvement on the earlier aeroplane. It is remarkable not only in that it is exceptionally fine as a flying machine, but also (and more rarely in this country) because it is very well-designed from the production side, and the gap between the prototype and large-scale production has been exceptionally small.
