AbstractSince the initial phase of mesospheric experiments with the EISCAT UHF radar in the early and middle 1980's, the commission of the VHF system some five years ago opened up new prospects. It is now also possible to operate these two radar systems simultaneously. Such observations from the same atmospheric volume at mesospheric heights are important for validation of data analysis techniques and investigations of frequency-dependent scattering processes. Additionally, measurements from widely separated regions may be intercompared. A split-beam configuration of the VHF system is a further enhancement of these capabilities. In the present paper we discuss new results from mesospheric observations obtained with EISCAT during intervals of polar mesosphere summer echoes.
