Influences on design of performance requirements of various mission segments are indicated, based in part on experience gained in XB-70 program; requirements that size power plant and wing are considered and mission segments, such as takeoff and landing, climb and acceleration, cruise, and descent; paper attempts to indicate those parameters which must be considered in formulation of future performance requirements; sonic boom considerations will require additional study.
