Modern wheel loaders are performing economically number of important tasks, including loading coal from fractured seam into haulage units, cleaning seams, building stockpiles, blending coals from stockpiles, and loading railroad cars and trucks from stockpiles; units in 60,000-lb class have loaded 550 tph from natural-state seam, loaded 840 tph from stockpile coal into railroad cars and well in excess of 1000 tph into trucks; cost of operating Cat 988 wheel loader with 6 1/2-yd coal bucket is $ 0.0321/ton.
